Meet the Academy Committee Members
Catherine Allison: Chair - Co-opted Academy Committee Member
I've been in education for the last 40 years as a teacher and a head of department of English in a comprehensive and a grammar school. I currently work for an examination board in GCSE and A level and am a consultant for my last school and a range of different educational companies.
I was the Chair of Governors of Shawley that led our journey into LEO and am proud to be the Chair of the Academic Committee witnessing the amazing journey of our wonderful school into even greater success. I live locally and am so proud of the lovely children that I meet when I visit.

I’m a local resident, mum of two children at Shawley, and an independent employment lawyer.
As wellbeing lead on the Academy Committee, I can utilise my professional experience in the employment and workplace context to support the mental health and wellbeing provision at Shawley. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to help support Shawley’s continued development under LEO and ensure our students are given every possible opportunity to thrive.
Joanne Cheesemore: Parent Academy Committee Member
My name is Jo and I live with my husband and 2 daughters who are in Year 1 and Year 2 at Shawley. I work full time as a Business Analyst in IT, as well as being a member of the company DE&I steering group which I enjoy. I love to spend my weekends with family and friends.
I am proud to have this opportunity to help support the school in ensuring that it continues to provide a great environment for children to learn and provide an excellent education to all of the children.
Fiona Askew: Co-opted Academy Committee member
Fiona has spent the first 9 years of her professional career working as a English & Drama teacher at a secondary school in Surrey. During this time she also took on several leadership roles including overseeing Student Mentoring and becoming the school's Diversity Equity and Inclusion Lead. Her passion for encouraging compassionate and curious learners is one of the many reasons she has decided to become a school governor. She is currently taking a break from academic teaching to support her new young family but is looking forward to sharing her skills with the governing body and becoming fully immersed in the community of Shawley Primary Academy.
