School Uniform

Statement of Equality

Under the Equality Act 2010 we have a duty not to discriminate against people on the basis of their age, disability, gender, gender identity, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief and sexual orientation.

It is school policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. We provide a complete list of the items needed for school uniform below.

Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform:

  • promotes a sense of pride in the school;

  • engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school;

  • is practical and smart;

  • identifies the children with the school;

  • prevents children from coming to school in fashion clothes that could be distracting in class;

  • makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance;

  • is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money by most parents;

  • is designed with health and safety in mind.

Prohibited Items

The following items are not permitted as part of the school uniform:

  • Jewellery, except for small plain studs. Earrings must be removed for contact sports and swimming.

  • Makeup, nail polish, and excessive hair styling.

  • Dyed hair, patterns/logos cut into hair..

  • Loose long hair, too many clips or bobbles, and brightly coloured hair accessories.

  • Hair gel/sprays and hair extensions not matching natural hair.

  • Heels higher than 3cm.

  • Trainers (except for PE days as designated by specific schools).

  • Boots (except in heavy snow).

Children should present a smart appearance for school and tops must be tucked in. We ask that all children wear shoes (except in Foundation Stage) as stated in the uniform list. If it remotely resembles a trainer please don't buy it even if it is labelled a shoe.

Parents are asked to ensure their child brings a coat to school every day even if the weather is fine - there is no supervision available for children to stay inside.

In order to avoid confusion and to keep lost property to a minimum, all items of clothing, P.E. kit, bags etc. MUST be clearly named, before being brought into the school.

If your child will be having their ears pierced please ensure that this is done at the start of the summer holidays to ensure there is sufficient time for them to heal and for earrings to be safely removed for PE.

We ask all parents who send their children to our school to support the school uniform policy. We believe that parents have a duty to send their children to school correctly dressed and ready for their daily schoolwork. One of the responsibilities of parents is to ensure that their child has the correct uniform and that it is clean and in good repair.
