Home School Partnership

At Shawley Community Primary School, we value and appreciate the important role all parents and carers play in supporting their children and developing a positive attitude to school and learning. At Shawley there are many opportunities for parents and carers to actively participate in supporting their children in school. These include:

Parents’ Evenings

These are held twice a year. In the early part of the autumn term parents and carers are invited to meet with their child’s teacher. This is an important meeting as it enables us to establish parents’ and carers’ views on how their child is settling into the new class and discuss the targets for the coming year. In the spring term teachers and parents and carers review progress being made and discuss the child’s work. 

Update on Progress

Regular information about children’s attainment is shared with parents and carers on a termly basis. An annual report is sent home at the end of the summer term for children in all years and includes details of your child’s progress together with targets for the next year.  

School Functions

Parents and carers are invited to school functions such as Harvest Assembly, Christmas celebrations, musical events, charity functions, Fundraisers events and sporting activities.

School Newsletter

This is sent out to all parents weekly via ParentMail.  A copy is also placed on the website for reference and paper copies are available from the school office.

Curriculum Workshops

These are organised during the year linked to areas of focus from the School Development Plan.

Home Learning

Suggestions of activities the children can undertake are sent out to all parents and carers on a regular basis throughout each term.

Read with me sessions

Throughout the year, we invite parents and carers to come into school and read with their child. This is a lovely occasion where the enjoyment of reading is promoted throughout the school. 

Any Concerns

The Head teacher and the teaching staff are happy to talk to parents about their child at any time. If we are concerned at any time about your child’s progress we will contact you. In return, if you have any worries or difficulties, please discuss them with us. Teachers can usually be available after school and the Head teacher will be available to talk to parents as needed. Please let the office know that you would like an appointment.

Induction

We have a comprehensive induction programme for all the children who are due to start in the reception classes in September.

• Reception induction evening for all parents/carers to introduce the staff and receive information about the forthcoming year.
• Induction mornings for all children. Children spend a session in their new classes with their new teachers.
• Home visits by the reception team in September, just before the children start school. At the end of the summer term, we hold a transition meeting for parents/carers as their children move into year 1.
• We also work very closely with our local secondary schools to ensure a positive and effective transition for the children in year 6 as they move into year 7.

Fundraisers

All parents automatically become a member of the Fundraisers when their children start school. The Fundraisers organise many events over the course of each year. All money raised help to buy equipment and other extras that may not otherwise be available to the school.
